The German Academic Exchange service (DAAD – Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst) invites qualified graduates and students originally from Ethiopia who have completed or will have completed by the time of scholarship-study program, a first degree (Bachelor, Diploma or comparable academic degree) to apply for the Civil Society Leadership Award. The award program aims at improving the situation of the humanities and social sciences in teaching and research in the select countries and developing a network German scientists and scientists from these countries, which can lead to further international contacts.
Scholarships are available for law, economics and social sciences. Funding is provided for the completion of one of the following Master’s or Magister degree programs at a state or state-recognised university in Germany:
- Global political economy – Universität Kassel
- Environmental Governance – Universität Freiburg
- Economics – Universität Trier
- Master’s program in Economics – Universität Konstanz
- Europäisches und Internationales Recht – Universität des Saarlandes
- Master Internationale Beziehungen – Katholische Universität Eichstätt-Ingolstadt
- Politikwissenschaft: Demokratisches Regieren und Zivilgesellschaft – Universität Osnabrück
Funding will be provided for a maximum of 24 months period depending on the standard period of study of the Master’s or Magister degree course. Scholarship holders will be provided monthly EUR750, travel allowance, one-off study allowance, along with health, accident & personal liability insurance cover. After receipt of the scholarship award letter, the selected candidates will be offered payment of course fees for the online language course “Deutsch-Uni Online (DUO)” for six months, if necessary, s/he will be offered payment for a language course of 2 or 4 months, allowance for a personally chosen German language course during the scholarship period, reimbursement of the fees for the TestDaF test which has either been taken in the home country after receipt of the Scholarship Award Letter or in Germany before the end of the funding period, reimbursement of the fee for English certification, e.g. TOEFL, IELTS or GRE tests, insofar as this is provably required by the relevant study program.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants should have taken their final examinations no longer than six years before the time of application.
- Applicants should not have been residing in Germany for longer than 15 months at the time of application.
- Applicants must get admission to study at a desired host institution to receive DAAD Scholarship Award.
- A language test is taken as part of the application procedure. The language test takes place in each country for all applicants (where necessary at different locations). Contact DAAD IC offices to find relevant dates and locations.
- Applicants must have knowledge of the language oof tuition of selected subject. Please find out exactly what language skills are required in the university’s study and admissions regulations.
How to apply?
Submit three sets of completed application form, curriculum vitae, letter of motivation, university degree certificate indicating final grade(s), other relevant documents like employment certificates, proof of placements etc., proof of language skills (English or German), recent reference from a university teacher, and health certificates to DAAD office via regular mail before deadline.
