The Foundation Department of Justice and Constitutional Development (DOJ&CD) and the EU is calling proposals to support innovative initiatives aimed at promoting awareness and improving access to people on their socio-economic as entrenched in the Bill of Rights and government’s obligations in this regard.
Applications that are approved for funding by the Foundation may be awarded a multiyear grant subject to a review of its performance and compliance with the funding contract at the end of each 12 months of the contract. Community based advice offices that have not previously been funded by the Foundation may apply for a grant award totaling R120 000.00 per annum.
The Foundation seeks to support education, awareness and accessing human rights programmes that are not abstract in nature, but which inform and give rise to an active citizenry able to assert and demand its rights. Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) that demonstrate an innovative approach to human rights education and awareness are vital transformative agents for the implantation of a culture of human rights, and the strengthening of South African democracy.
Eligibility Criteria
This call is open to application from all 9 provinces of South Africa. Priority may be given to provinces that are under resourced and/or underserviced.
To be considered eligible, applicant organizations should meet the following criteria:
- Have as their core business the promotion, protection and advancement of human rights and have a proven track record of implementing education and awareness programmes on constitutional rights and promoting access to socio-economic rights.
- Be a CSOs based in, or working closely with communities in rural and peri-urban areas, working with marginalized groups.
- Be registered, or in the process of registering as a Not-for profit organization that is a, community-based organization (CBO), Section 21 company (Not for Profit company), or a non-profit trust.
- NGOs and CBOs working with Chapter 9 Institutions.
- Demonstrate that the proposed project will involve active community participation and benefit communities and its members.
