APIASF announces select number of travel grants for Scholars who wish to attend Higher Education Summit being organized on June 20, 2012 in Washington, D.C. These travel grants are being granted with the co-operation of Southwest Airlines major sponsor of APIASF and the official airline of the APIASF Higher Education Summit.
These grants are being organized into a series of panels, presentations and roundtable discussions. The 2012 APIASF Higher Education Summit on the subject “Advancing the Democratic Mission of Higher Education: The Relevance of Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders”, will throw light on national data outlining the demography of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the U.S. and its impact on educational policies, institutions, and students.
The forum will conclude with a special reception hosted by APIASF and will be attended by key leaders in the education, policy, non-profit, private and public sectors. This is a golden opportunity for APIASF and AAPI GMS scholarship recipients interested in the fields of education, policy, and government to dialogue and engage with significant leaders regarding issues facing today’s Asian American and Pacific Islander students.
Applicants must be current or past recipients of either the APIASF scholarship award or an Asian American, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander Gates Millennium Scholars Program scholarship recipient. Verification will be conducted prior to awarding of the travel grants.
The travel grants will cover the cost of airfare/travel, two nights lodging (depending on travel itinerary), and ground transportation. Scholars will be expected to attend the briefing orientation on June 19, 2012, attend the entire Summit on June 20, 2012, and submit a reflection piece to APIASF capturing their observations and learning from the event.
Deadline to apply is Wednesday, March 14, 2012.
