The Darwin Initiative is a UK government grants scheme that helps to protect biodiversity and the natural environment in developing countries and UK Overseas Territories (OTs). The primary aim of the Darwin-funded projects are to help preserve biodiversity and the local community that lives alongside it.
Funding Schemes
- DI Main Project Funding – projects benefiting biodiversity and local communities in developing countries.£250,000 – £300,000 for the duration of three years.
- DI Post Project Funding – only existing Darwin project leaders can apply.
- DI Scoping Projects – only organisations that have not received a grant for main round Darwin project in either of the last two Darwin application rounds may apply.
- DI Fellowship Awards – individual from developing country involved in a recent or current Darwin Initiative project; or directly involved in the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity. The host organisation where the individual will carry out the training or research must be in the UK. Around £20,000-£25,000 award for 12 months training.
