The United Nations Development Programme is currently accepting concept notes from eligible organizations in Papua New Guinea for its Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (UNDP GEF SGP) under 5th Operational Phase.
The United Nations Development Program Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (UNDP GEF SGP) was launched by the GEF through the United Nations Development Programme to assist developing countries in fulfilling their commitment of protection of the global environment through local actions.

Grants & Duration
The duration of each project may vary from 18 to 30 months. Grants of up to USD$50,000.00 will be considered for each project.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants can be non-government organizations (NGOs), community based organizations (CBOs) and faith based organizations working in Papua New Guinea
- Preference will be given to the organizations & projects that:
- Promote innovative community based initiatives to reduce local environmental threats;
- Build local capacity to implement sustainable development strategies creating ‘local ownership and institutional capabilities’.
- Demonstrate high replicability, co-financing and scaling-up potential; Foster public awareness on environmental issues as an integral part of the project; Address livelihood, equality and gender concerns and sensitivities.
- Involve women, marginalized populations and isolated communities as equal partners in programme implementation;
- Create an impact, influence policies and partnership at the National, Provincial and local levels in the country; Generate local knowledge and involvement of communities in planning, implementing and monitoring of projects; and
- Encourage sustainability and demonstrate people’s participation, democracy, flexibility, partnership and transparency in their approach during implementation of activities in projects.
How to Apply?
Interested NGOs/CBOs must download generic forms including Concept Paper and Guidance Notes plus Programme Strategy from the UNDP website and submit their Concept Paper with relevant attachments via email or post.
Note: All concept papers must be submitted in Microsoft Word versions.
