The Ornithological Council is desired to invite proposals for Grants Program for Ornithological Research in Latin America and the Caribbean. The mission of this programme is to ensure that the best ornithological science is incorporated into legislative, regulatory, and management decisions that affect birds; enhance the ability of ornithologists to pursue professional activities; and promote the influence of
ornithology in public affairs.
Grants will be limited to projects in Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and South America. Preference will be given to projects focusing on resident species but benefits to migratory birds will also be considered. Preference will be given to species and habitats with greater and more immediate conservation needs.
Funding of up to US$7,500 per year for one or more projects may be requested.
Eligibility criteria:
Grants will be made to members of any of the OC member societies: American Ornithologists’ Union, Association of Field Ornithologists, Cooper Ornithological Society, Pacific Seabird Group, Raptor Research Foundation, Waterbird Society, Wilson Ornithological Society, Society of Canadian Ornithologists, the Society for the Conservation and Study of Caribbean Birds, the Sociedad para el Estudio y Conservación de las Aves en México A.C. (CIPAMEX), the Neotropical Ornithological Society, and the North American Crane Working Group. An applicant must be willing to join an OC member society if he/she receives an award and is not already a member
