The Asia Foundation’s Environment program funds Asian initiatives targeted at the sustainability of the environment and natural resources critical to Asia’s development and future well-being. The local stakeholders including civil society, government, and the private sector are invited to submit ‘letter of inquiry’ for high-impact programs aimed at strengthening the institutions and processes through which environmental resources are managed, and at improving environmental policy.

The Foundation’s Environment programs address and prioritize critical issues that benefit from a coordinated understanding of the broad political, social, and economic dynamics of environmental governance reform.
Areas where the Foundation is having an impact in Asia
- Programs on responsible mining and natural resource management in Mongolia
- Increasing public participation and transparency in environmental decision-making in China
- Preparing for natural disasters and climate change in the Pacific Islands
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants from Asia are strongly encouraged.
- Grant applications must be made by group/organization/institution. Individuals are not eligible to apply for the grant.
- Applicants can not be US based organization.
- The letter of inquiry must include a very brief introduction about the grant-seeking organization, a brief project description, and budget estimate.
