The International Foundation for Science (IFS) invites early-career scientists in developing countries to apply for individual research grants. Applications can be made to undertake research on the sustainable management of biological and water resources.

Research grants can be up to USD 12,000 for one to three years duration. The grant can be used towards the purchase of basic tools for research: equipment, expendable supplies and literature, as well as field activities.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be citizens of a developing country eligible for ISF support. List of eligible countries – Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bein, Bhutan, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo DR, Congo R, Djibouti, Egupt, El Salvador, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Guatemala, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Kiribati, Korea, Laos, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Marshall Islands, Mauritania, Micronesia, Mongolia, Morocco, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nepal, Nicaragua, Niger, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Philippines, Rwanda, Samoa, Sao Tome & Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, Somalia, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Swaziland, Syria, Tanzania, Timor-Leste, Togo, Uganda, Vanuatu, Vietnam, West Bank and Gaza, Yemen, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
- Applicants must be attached to a national research institute (e.g. university, non-profit making research centre, or research-oriented NGO).
- Applicants must be early-career scientists in support of excellent science.
- Applicants must have a minimum academic degree of an MSc/MA or the equivalent.
- Applicant male should be younger than 35 years and female should be younger than 30 years by the deadline.
- Past grantees can apply for a renewal grant irrespective of age.
- Researchers employed at international research institutes or NGO’s are not eligible. However, researchers doing part of their project at an international institute can apply.
Note: The institution that the applicant is attached to, is expected to- administer the grant, guarantee that the applicant has a salary (or other source of income), and provide basic research facilities.
