Deadline: 1 December 2015
The Waterloo Foundation is currently inviting grant applications from UK based Charities and international organization (with reference) for its tropical rainforests program 2015. Proposals are invited for projects that can help mitigate the damaging effects that humans are having on the environment and contribute to a positive change both now and in the future.
The funds support projects which can help mitigate the damaging effects that humans are having on the environment and contribute to a positive change both now and in the future. Each year, the foundation offer funds under its two main themes:
- Marine – support for projects working to halt declining fish stocks
- Tropical Rainforests – support for projects protecting tropical rain forest, principally through avoided deforestation
Funds Available
The foundation will consider providing one off and multi-annual grants (usually for up to three years). The majority of grants in this programme will be for a total of £50,000 – £100,000.
What will be Supported
- Under our Forests programme, preference will be given to initiatives working to protect tropical rainforests for their value to the climate, communities and biodiversity, principally through avoided deforestation.
- Applications considered for strategic projects must address the drivers of deforestation on a wider or international scale. These could include:
- Working on international or regional forest policy
- Campaigning for improved practices in commerce
- Innovative ways of reducing deforestation e.g. financial systems or solutions based on the value of forest ecosystem services
Tropical Rainforests Projects Supported so Far
- Greenpeace has been campaigning against environmental degradation since 1971. They investigate, expose and confront environmental abuses by governments and corporations around the world. TWF is supporting Greenpeace since three years.
- The Global Canopy Programme was established in 2001 as an alliance of 38 scientific institutions in 19 countries; world leaders in forest canopy research, education and conservation. TWF are supporting GCP over 5 years with core funding, which enables them to adapt to these issues and developments more flexibly and rapidly, making them more responsive and effective as an organisation.
