The Group of Eight (Go8) is a group of eight Australian universities which is currently inviting applications for the European Fellowship program under which eight fellowships are awarded to early career researchers in Europe each year. The main aim of offering these fellowships is to boost research collaboration between Australia and Europe.
These fellowships are open to citizens of Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Russia and Slovakia.

Eligibility Conditions
You are eligible to apply if you:
- have completed a PhD less than five years prior to the application closing date;
- are under 40 years of age at the application closing date;
- are a citizen of one of the designated countries listed in section 2 above;
- reside in one of the designated countries listed in section 2 above (it need not be the same country as your citizenship);
- have been employed (minimum half-time appointment) for at least six months prior to the application closing date by a university or research organization (public or private) in one of the designated countries;
- have sufficient competency in English to be able to adequately communicate with researchers in the host university; and
- are eligible to obtain an Australian Visiting Academic Visa (subclass 419) or equivalent Australian visa.
Other Conditions
- The Group of Eight1 (Go8) Australian universities fund eight European Fellowships for early career researchers in Europe per year. Fellows will be based at a member university for a period of 16 weeks to six months. Fellows receive up to AUD20,000 to support travel and living costs to work at a Go8 member university for up to six months.
- The fellowships are open to citizens of Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Russia and Slovakia.
- Applicants will be restricted to a maximum of one application per year.
