The Global Network for Public Interest Law (PILnet) was founded as the Public Interest Law Initiative in Transitional Societies (PLITS) in 1997 after the fall of Berlin Wall. The vision behind establishing this network was to promote law for serving the interests of the general public. PILnet wishes to create a world which is governed by the rule of law to deliver justice and protect basic rights of human beings.
Call for Nominations
PILnet is currently inviting nominations for the inaugural European Award for Partnership in the Public Interest, which will recognize the best pro bono legal project undertaken jointly between a non-governmental organization and a law firm in Europe.
About the Nominations
Nominations for the award should consist of a narrative no longer than two pages describing projects that have positively influenced at least one European country and were completed in the 12 months prior to September 2011. Nominations should address the following criteria, as relevant:
- Produced a significant impact on people’s lives
- Influenced legislation or the decisions of public authorities in the public interest
- Strengthened the development of civil society
- Improved protection of human right
- Expanded access to justice
- Mobilized significant resources on the part of the partner law firm
- Strengthened awareness among lawyers of the importance of pro bono work.
The award will be bestowed on November 18, 2011, during the closing session of the 2011 European Pro Bono Forum in Berlin.
Last date for submitting the nominations is October 7, 2011.
