European Union, represented by the Republic of Malawi is currently accepting proposals to improve the livelihoods of the population in Malawi, particularly in the rural areas of the country, through sustainable agricultural development. Pre-selected applicants will be invited to submit a Full Application Form thereon. The overall indicative amount made available under this call for proposals is EUR 1,500,000.

Program Duration: 30 months to 36 months
Thematic Areas
The actions must relate to the following specific sectors or themes:
- Land governance and tenure
- Capacity building and strengthening institutions
- Equal gender rights
Size of grants
Grant requested under this Call for Proposals must fall between EUR 1,400,000 – EUR 1,500,000.
Eligibility Criteria
- In order to be eligible for a grant, the applicant must:
- be legal persons or an entity without legal personality.
- be specific types of organisations such as: non-governmental organisations, private sector organisations, non-state actors, farmers’ associations, trusts.
- be established in a Member State of the European Union, in countries of the European Economic Area, an ACP state or a least developed country as specified in the latest OECD-DAC list of Official Development Assistance (ODA) recipient countries. This obligation does not apply to international organisations.
- be directly responsible for the preparation and management of the action with the co-applicant(s) and affiliated entity.
- be able to demonstrate capacity to manage large scale activity corresponding to the size of the project for which a grant is requested.
- Applicant can have a co-applicant(s) or affiliated entity(ies) where
- Co-applicant(s) participate in designing and implementing the action, and the costs they incur are eligible in the same way as those incurred by the applicant.
- Co-applicant(s) must satisfy the eligibility criteria as applicable to the applicant himself.
- The project activity must be carried in Malawi and Applicant’s project must be based upon thematic areas mentioned above.
Application Procedure
- Application is a two phase process:
- Phase 1- Concept note
- Phase 2- Full proposal
- Applications must be submitted in English in accordance with the Concept Note instructions in the Grant Application via regular mail.
- The Concept Note together with its relating Checklist and Declaration by the applicant must be submitted in one original and three copies in A4 size, each bound.
- An electronic version of the Concept Note must also be submitted. A CD-Rom with the Concept Note in electronic format will be included, along with the paper version, in a sealed envelope.
Note: Concept Notes sent by any other means (e.g. by fax or by e-mail) or delivered to other addresses will be rejected.
