Applicants from Greece are invited to apply for PhD Fellowships in the Field of Environmental Studies at The American School of Classical Studies at Athens.
Fellowships awarded annually to graduate students or postdoctoral scholars working on well-defined projects in skeletal, faunal, geoarchaeological, or environmental studies. To contribute to the development of the Lab; to assist with queries from excavators; to offer a lecture on his/her project; to participate in one Regular Program School trip; and to contribute to seminars on aspects of archaeological science as part of the School’s annual curriculum. A final report is due at the end of the award period, and the School expects that copies of all publications that result from research conducted as a Fellow of the ASCSA be contributed to the Wiener Laboratory library of the School.
Benefits provided–
Stipend ranging from $15,500 to $27,000, depending on seniority, experience and the nature of the project. School fees will be deducted from the fellowship stipend.
Eligibility-
- Scholars with a Ph.D. or doctoral students with well-defined projects from archaeological contexts in Greece, working either alone or in collaboration with local research institutions.
- Preference will be given to projects that make significant use of the facilities of the Wiener Laboratory.
- Priority will also be given to applicants who have not received significant support from the Wiener Laboratory in the past three years.
Application Procedure-
- Cover letter naming the applicant and title of the project.
- Project description. In no more than 2,500 words, describe the purpose, nature and methodology of the research project applicant are proposing. Include the following information-
- aim, scope and significance of the project
- timetable, including publication schedule
- methodology to be used
- equipment/resources needed while at the Wiener Laboratory
- how the project relates to existing and current research on the topic
- bibliography of works relevant to the project
- transcripts or list of relevant course work.
- Copies of permits(s) or letters from relevant authorities to study proposed materials, and copies of permission(s) from relevant excavation or project directors to study the proposed materials.
- Budget. Itemize research, travel, housing, board, and other living expenses.
- Curriculum vitae.
- Two letters of recommendation.
