The Bioversity International invites research proposals from young forest genetic research scientists in Sub-Saharan Africa for the Abdou-Salam Ouédraogo (ASO) Fellowship 2014. This is an opportunity to develop the capacity through interaction with, and mentorship by a scientist at Biodiversity International.
Priority Areas
- Diversified forest/woodland management
- Conservation of tree genetic resources
- Restoration of forested landscapes
The maximum fellowship amount is US$10,000 to cover the research expenses and related travel and subsistence costs during field work. The fellow will be co-supervised by a scientist at Bioversity Internationa. The mentoring will be organized in dialogue with the Fellow and the local supervisor.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be citizen of a country in Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Applicants must be scientists of PhD Student attached to a national university, research institution or a research-oriented NGO.
- Applicants must be under the age of 40.
- Applicants must have at least a Master’s degree or equivalent in the field of study relevant to forest genetic resources.
- Applicants should write research note (maximum 1000 words), summarizing the proposed research, as per guidelines in the application form.
- Applicants should identify a local supervisor to guide the preparation and implementation of the research.
