American Association of University Women (AAUW) is a nationwide network of more than 100,000 members and donors, 1,000 branches, and 500 college/university institution partners. For 130 years, AAUW members have examined and taken positions on the fundamental issues of the day — educational, social, economic, and political. AAUW advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research.
AAUW also engages in advancing educational and professional opportunities for women in the United States and around the globe. One of the world’s largest sources of funding for graduate women, AAUW is providing more than $3.7 million in funding for more than 240 fellowships and grants to outstanding women and nonprofit organizations in the 2011-12 academic year.
Fellowship and grant recipients perform research in a wide range of disciplines and work to improve their schools and communities. AAUW provides five types of grants and fellowships and is seeking applications for the same:
– American Fellowships
– Career Development Grants
– Community Action Grants
– International Fellowships
– Selected Professions Fellowships
American Fellowships
American Fellowships support women scholars completing doctoral dissertations, conducting postdoctoral research, or finishing research for publication. Recipients must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
Career Development Grants
Career Development Grants support women who hold a bachelor’s degree and are preparing to advance or change careers or re-enter the work force. Special consideration is given to women of color, and women pursuing their first advanced degree or credentials in nontraditional fields. Funds are available for tuition, fees, books, supplies, local transportation, and dependent care. Recipients must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
Community Action Grants
Community Action Grants provide seed money to women, AAUW branches, AAUW state organizations, and local community-based nonprofit organizations for innovative programs or nondegree research projects that promote education and equity for women and girls. Recipients must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
International Fellowships
International Fellowships are awarded for full-time study or research to women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Fellowships support graduate or postgraduate studies at accredited institutions. Recipients are selected for academic achievement and demonstrated commitment to women and girls. The overwhelming majority return to their home countries to become leaders in government, academia, community activism, the arts, and science.
Selected Professions Fellowships
Selected Professions Fellowships provide opportunities for women to pursue graduate and first-professional degrees in designated fields where women traditionally have been underrepresented and where the employment outlook and earnings potential are strong.
