The Morphomata Center for Advanced Studies in the Humanities is currently inviting applications from the scholars around the world for its Morphomata fellowships program 2016-17. Morphomata especially invites projects from international scholars, with a cross-cultural approach, and which go beyond conventional biographical accounts.
What Fellowship Covers?
- Fellowships are granted for a period of 3 to 9 months. Fellows must be in residence in Cologne during the fellowship period.
- The actual amount of the grant is negotiated on an individual basis.
- Funding for the Fellow’s accommodation is included in the grant.
- Foreign Fellows is acquiring their necessary health insurance.
- The Center covers the costs of the Fellows’ arrival to and departure from the Center for the fellowship.
- Additionally, individual trips to conferences and research travel can be funded with approval by the assistant directors as long as they are directly related to the fellowship project.
- Round trip travel costs for family members (spouses, preschool, and school children) can be covered with prior agreement if they accompany the Fellow for at least 3 months.
- The Center covers the costs of the Fellows’ arrival to and departure from the Center for the fellowship.

Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants can be scholars around the world.
- Applicants must have the status of at least assistant professor (or equivalent).
- Applicants must have a strong research record in biography/life writing and/or portraiture.
- Applicants with particular interest in the theory of the formation, dynamics, and modality of cultural figurations are also invited to apply.
- Fellows are required to participate actively in the interdisciplinary and intercultural life of the University.
Application Process
Applicants should be submitted their application via email with the following documents:
- A cover letter of one or two pages that indicates the preferred time slot for the fellowship.
- A curriculum vitae.
- A list of publications.
- A title and a proposal for a research project (maximum 2000 words) related to the topics.
- A summary of maximum 200 words that clearly indicates to readers from other disciplines where the special significance of the project lies.
- Applications in German must be supplemented with an English title and summary.
