International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) is inviting woman journalists around the world whose work in print, broadcast, or digital media has focused on human rights and social justice reporting to apply for Elizabeth Neuffer Fellowship program. The seven-month program will begin in late August 2015 and conclude March 2016.
The fellowship provides an academic and professional opportunity for women journalists who focus on human rights and social justice to advance their reporting skills.
Programme Structure
- The IWMF Neuffer Fellowship runs from September 2015 to March 2016.
- The fellow will be based at the Center for International Studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, Massachusetts as a research associate during the first several months of the fellowship.
- During the second portion of the fellowship, the fellow may conduct an internship at The New York Times while living in New York. Working with the IWMF, the fellow will design a program that will enable her to pursue academic research while improving her ability to cover human rights and social justice issues.
Benefits
- A fixed monthly stipend will be provided to cover housing, meals, and ground transportation during the fellowship.
- Round-trip economy airfare from the fellow’s place of residence to Washington, D.C., and vice versa will be provided.
- The fellow will receive health insurance during the program.
- For fellows residing outside of the United States, the fellowship also covers the costs of applying for and obtaining a U.S. visa.
Eligibility Criteria
- Any women journalists whose work in print, broadcast, or digital media has focused on human rights and social justice reporting are eligible to apply for the fellowship program.
- There is no geographical restriction for the applicants.
- Excellent written and spoken English skills are required.
- Applicants must be able to demonstrate support from an editor or have a proven track record of publication in media outlets.
