Global Health Corps (GHC) is currently inviting application for the Fellowship Program 2012. GHC is the organization dedicated to mobilize a global community of emerging leaders to build the movement for health equity. GHC envisions to strengthen the global health movement with the help of new leaders who use experience and community to heighten their impact and bring about change for health equity. GHC recruits, trains, and supports the movement’s future leaders to diversify the pool of young people working in global health.
Fellowship Provisions
GHC is committed to ensuring that young people from all economic backgrounds can take advantage of this opportunity. GHC fellows are provided with stipends to cover all travel, living and work expenses for the duration of the Fellowship. In addition to covering these expenses, all fellows will receive a Completion Award at the end of the Fellowship.
Eligibility Criteria
The applicant must:
- Be under age 30 at the time of application
- Have an undergraduate university degree by July 2012
- Be proficient in English
- No specific background or technical experience is necessary, as each individual fellowship placement will require different specific skills.
General Information
- Applicants apply to specific Fellowships, which are available in Rwanda, Malawi, Uganda, Burundi, Zambia, and the United States.
- The period of commitment is 13 months – from the mid-July to mid-August. This includes attending a two-week Summer Training Institute in July, followed by twelve months working on the ground on the Fellowship, and a final group exit meeting in August.
- There is no specific academic background or experience required beyond the completion of an undergraduate education. Successful applicants will likely possess skills that relate to the work demanded by the Fellowship. Additionally, previous experience traveling or working in the developing world will strengthen your application. However, even if you do not have that experience, GHC and the placement organization will provide you with the support to ensure a successful fellowship experience.
- All of the placement organizations have extensive experience sending American volunteers and employees to their sites throughout Africa. These organizations will work with Fellows assigned to their sites to satisfy the necessary requirements for traveling and working abroad. Similarly, international Fellows working in the US will be supported through all travel, insurance, and visa procedures.
- Fellowship teams will consist of two fellows. All teams will be cross-cultural, with one Fellow from the host country, and one international Fellow.
- You can apply for up to three positions. You only need to submit one application. In the second half of the application, you will submit one essay for every position you apply to. You may copy and paste essay content where appropriate for the three essays, though you should tailor your answers to the specific position as much as possible.
- No past experience in healthcare is required. Global Health Corps Fellowships will engage young professionals from a variety of fields to use their specific skills to serve global health.
Last date for submitting the applications is February 17, 2012.
