iLEAP: The Center for Critical Service, an international nonprofit organization is accepting applications for the iLEAP International Fellowship, which targets those working in and directly with communities in Africa, Asia-Pacific and Latin America. Individuals applying to this program should be:
- Between the ages of 25 and 45;
- Dedicated to serving the community(ies) or the population with whom they are working;
- Currently working with an organization and holds at least five years of relevant experience as a community leader;
- Creative, skilled and capable of working with different organizations, cultures, situations and settings;
- Demonstrably adaptive and open to new and challenging experiences;
- Conversant in the English language.
Preference is also given to applicants who are:
- Connected to supporters, communities and/or international organizations based in the Western Washington region;
- Working in communities through which to connect to iLEAP Taking the LEAP program.
The program is highly competitive and for every 10 applications received, only one fellowship is granted. There are six steps in the entire application process. Initially, applicants need to send only two letters: one from the applicant itself and the other from an international organization to support the candidature.
Depending on the country of origin, estimated costs per Fellow for program participation are $8,000-$10,000 USD. This amount includes all international airfare, visa/immigration, health insurance, Seattle transportation, room and board, books and supplies, and a living stipend. Without question, this is a significant amount and underscores the important investment being made in these individual leaders who go on to be Fellows and, for some, our International Faculty.
iLEAP works very hard with foundations and supporters to ensure that the burden of program participation does not fall on the Fellows. To this point, they have been successful at meeting the intentions. At the same time, iLEAP expects that successful applicants works with it to find creative solutions to persistent challenge of securing resources.
The application deadline is 15 March 2011. For more, visit this link.
