Applications are being accepted from qualified professionals (in particular government officials and teachers of international law) from developing countries and countries with emerging economies with legal background and professional experience in international law to become International Law Fellow in The Hague, the Netherlands, from 22 June – 31 July 2015. The Fellowship Program will help deepen the participants’ knowledge of international law and of the legal work of the United Nations and its associated bodies.
The Fellowship Program provides high-quality training by leading scholars and practitioners on a broad range of core subjects of international law. Interactive in nature, it allows the participants to share experiences and exchange ideas, which promotes greater understanding and cooperation on contemporary issues of international law.
The International Law Fellowship Program covers – participation in the fellowship program, training materials, registration fee for The Hague Academy of International Law, travel costs, accommodation, medical insurance and stipend to cover other living expenses.
Applications from female candidates are strongly encouraged.

Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be between 24-45 years of age at the beginning of the fellowship program.
- Applicants must have a legal background with professional experience in the field of international law.
- Proficiency in English is must. Applicant must submit evidence of her/his ability to attend and participate in lectures and seminars conducted in English (e.g., diploma of courses conducted in English, language test certificate, extensive work experience in English).
- Medical certificate of good health is a requirement.
- Applicants who were not selected in the past can apply. They need to submit a new complete application to the Codification Division of the Office of Legal Affairs.
How to apply?
- Application forms must be downloaded, electronically completed in English, and printed.
- The printed copy should be signed by the applicant and scanned (in pdf, tif, or jpg).
- One scanned copy with signed original, and another electronic version of the completed form should be both sent via email before deadline.
- The Letter of Transmission must be completed and signed by a senior official of the institution that presents the candidate’s application.
