John Allwright Fellowship is working to increase research capacity in ACIAR’s partner country institutions. The ACIAR Fellowships Scheme was incorporated in the year 1986 to offer the opportunity for partner country scientists engrossed in ACIAR-supported collaborative research projects to obtain postgraduate qualifications at Australian tertiary institutions.
The major objective of the Scheme is to enhance research capacity in ACIAR’s partner country institutions. However, individual awardees will be benefitted from this scheme but partner country institutions are the major targets.
The research work conducted by each awardee becomes an integral part of Postgraduate studies. Each awardee is engaged in collaborative research prior taking up the award. However, it is significant that the student’s research project forms a discrete topic related to, but not part of, the existing ACIAR project.
The study program should be designed in such a manner to offer the awardees with the opportunity of active involvement in the project research work throughout their studies. This will help them to gather sufficient knowledge to continue the research effort on final return to their home country. ACIAR will in certain circumstances support course work postgraduate degrees.
Project Leaders are requested to ensure that a project is in running condition even in the absence of a successful awardee. As, only running project will be eligible for the award.
