The Moms Rising Fellowship is a one-year, full-time, paid position. The Moms Rising Fellowship will help expand the capacity of emerging leaders who are seeking additional training and experience in the world of innovative organizing strategies which link online and on-the-ground advocacy.
Two fellowship positions are available starting in the early fall of 2012. The fellows will serve as Campaign Associates working on specific campaigns which advocate for family economic security policies and ending discrimination against mothers. Specialized training in multi-layered organizing tactics will be provided, including the use of cutting-edge technology tools for social movement building. Professional development coaching will also be provided.
The Moms Rising Fellowship are looking for up-and-coming stars from diverse backgrounds who can show that they have either initiated or helped lead on projects (large or small) that furthered the public good in their own communities or elsewhere, especially in historically marginalized communities. The ideal candidate is someone who is a natural organizer but who has not had the on-the-job training and opportunity to advance their ability to build large-scale movements for social change. Perhaps, a recent graduate or have just a few year’s work experience; or you are someone who took time from your career to raise children and are now looking for an “on ramp” to start a new career; or you volunteered to organize in your community or started an interesting project. The main criteria are history of being a self-starter and the ability to bring people together and move projects forward.
Exceptional writing skills are a must. The ability to speak Spanish is a plus, as is experience working with communities of color. The candidate do not have to have an extensive background in the use of technology, but you should at least be skilled in word processing, spreadsheet development, e-mail communications, and social media applications such as Facebook and Twitter. The candidate would need to be able to be a quick learner and user of new computer applications and tools.
Where: Flexible. MomsRising is a virtual organization with staff typically working from their home offices around the country. We collaborate via e-mail, IM and conference calls. To be successful in this position, the candidate will need to be able to thrive in a work environment where there is little in-person contact with colleagues and provide an independent office set up at your home or other location.
