Founded in 1985, the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies (OCIS) is a recognised Independent centre at the University of Oxford. The Center was started to promote the scholarly study of Islam and the Islamic world. The Center is managed by a Board of Trustees whose members include scholars and statesmen from across the world as well as representatives of the University of Oxford. OCIS serves as a meeting point for the Western and Islamic worlds of learning. Being a recognized center at University of Oxford, it contributes to the multi-disciplinary and cross-disciplinary study of the Islamic world.
OCIS is currently inviting applications for outstanding, eligible candidates for Imam Bukhari & Imam Tirmizi Visiting Research Fellowships for the academic year 2012-2013. These Fellowships are intended to encourage interaction among academics from various traditions of learning.
Fellowships Provisions
- These Fellowships each carry a stipend of £3,000 and membership of the Common Room.
- The stipend is intended as a supplementary award and may be held in conjunction with other research grants, stipends, or sabbatical salaries.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants should be citizens of countries in Asia or Africa.
- Preference will be given to those studying classical Islamic sciences, although other areas in the humanities and social sciences will be considered.
Other Conditions
- The Fellowships will be tenable from 1 October 2012 for a minimum period of three months.
- The Imam Bukhari and Imam Tirmizi Research Fellows will be expected to devote their time to research and writing and to participate in the Centre’s academic activities.
