PEER Fellowships for Research Activities in Different Areas

The Partnerships for Enhanced Engagement in Research (PEER) program invites proposals for institutions/organizations for research activities in the specific areas. Duration of projects is up to three years with the total estimated budget:

  1. Single institution: U.S. $40,000 – $80,000 per year
  2. Multiple institutions: U.S. $80,000 – $120,000 per year

Examples of research related activities that PEER will support include:

  • Research projects with the potential to yield impact in low and middle income countries
  • Approaches that employ new or novel applications of existing methods, practices, or protocols in a developing country context
  • Primary data collection for undergraduate and graduate students or support for other field visits necessary for data collection by a member of the research team
  • Exchanges and data analyses with PEER partners.

Note the key dates

  1. January 9, 2015             Pre-proposals due
  2. February 13, 2015         Selected applicants are invited to submit a full proposal
  3. March 30, 2015             Full proposals due
  4. Late June 2015             PEER awardees announced

Eligibility criteria

  • Applicants who submit pre-proposals must be based at an academic institution, non-profit organization, or government-managed research laboratory, center, or institute , though applicants in government ministries who conduct research are also eligible.
  • The grants will be issued to institutions or organizations, not to individuals.
  • US-based researchers are not eligible for pre proposals.
  • When drafting a pre-proposal, applicants should convey the development impact of their proposed research for the focus area to which they are applying.
  • Applicants are required to partner with a U.S. Government (USG)-supported researcher from one of the following agencies:
    1. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
    2. National Institutes of Health (NIH)
    3. National Science Foundation (NSF)
    4. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)
    5. S. Geological Survey (USGS)

How to apply?

The PEER proposal submission process has two phases. All applicants need to submit pre-proposal. Successful applicants will be invited to submit full proposals.
