The Science & Technology Facilities Council (STFC) is accepting fellowships applications from researchers at an early stage of their career. The Ernest Rutherford Fellowships (ERF) 2014, providing five years of funding, is open for all the outstanding researchers around the world who do not have a permanent academic position.
Interested candidates should contact their proposed host institutions (one among University of Edinburgh School of Physics and Astronomy and Cockcroft Institute or its partner institutions) in the United Kingdom to make applications on their behalf. Total 12 fellowships are granted each year to allow the future scientific leaders establish a strong, independent research program.
Selected international (non-European economic area) applicants who require a visa to work in the UK will be considered under the Tire 1 (Exceptional Talent) visa route.

Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates must be early career researchers who do not have a permanent academic position.
- Candidates must have a PhD and a minimum of five years’ research experience from the start of the postgraduate program leading to the award of a PhD and 1 September 2015 with, a minimum of two years’ postdoctoral experience.
- Candidate can be from anywhere in the world, s/he need to comply with Department of Employment requirements and hold a work permit prior to taking up the Fellowship, where applicable.
- Candidate must demonstrate capability to fulfill the wider responsibilities of an academic career (teaching, service on committees, public engagement etc) and evidence of leadership ability.
- Applicants may submit only one application to one institution.
Application materials include – curriculum vitae, list of publications, letter or support, case for support for fellowship, up to two hundred words on public engagement, up to two hundred words on Pathways to Impact (if appropriate), and Data management plan.
