United Nations Economic Commission for Africa seeks applications for a special fellowship in the Governance and Public Administration Division (GPAD) from candidates who have completed their Masters Degree in international affairs, diplomacy, development economics, public administration, political or social science and the related field have substantial experience in drafting project proposals, undertaking systematic research and building relationships with stakeholders, at the institutional, regional and international levels.
The programme seeks to familiarize the fellow with the Commission’s broad programmes and services to member States in promoting the role of the private sector in the development and governance processes. It is designed to provide practical and on the‐job experience for young professionals under the age of 35 and prepare the young professional for possible career assignments at African development institutions, teaching and research think tanks or member States’ government institutions
This fellowship is located in the Private Sector and Enterprise Development Section of GPAD of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. ECA intensifies its effort to provide tangible support to member States. Therefore, it is soliciting applications for a fellowship on promoting governance and development management to enhance national capacity and capabilities of government institutions in ECA member states.
Conditions
The fellowship is for a period of six months;
– The fellow will receive a lump‐sum payment of USD 3,000.00 per month;
– Fellows cannot be employed with in United Nations Secretariat within six months of completion of a fellowship period.
– The fellowship is tenable for a period not to exceed six months, with a possibility of extension; (Maximum of 12 Months)
– The fellow will give copies of reports and any other tangible outputs supported by the fellowship, to the GPAD.
– Fellows will agree to a work programme defined mutually with the receiving section, the Private Sector & Enterprise Development Section of the Governance and Public Administration Division (GPAD).
Eligibility
Education: Advanced university degree (Masters degree) or equivalent in international affairs, diplomacy, development economics, public administration, political or social science and related field is required.
Experience: Experience in project management, analytical policy / strategy drafting, and secretariat services to high‐level boards and summits.
Language: For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
Other skills: knowledge of Programme, project and risk management (including Prince2) is desirable. Proficiency in Lotus Notes and Microsoft Office applications including Powerpoint, Excel and Word is also desirable. Last date for submitting the application is June 20, 2011
