The Berghof Foundation, established in 1971, works with organizations around the world to create non-violent responses to conflict-related situations. The Foundation focuses on conflict research, peace support, and peace education and offers three grant opportunities:
Grant for Innovation in Conflict Transformation (GIC) supports projects at a maximum of € 75,000. The Foundation’s Board of Trustees selects a focus annually for this grant. Previously funded projects include the development of an interactive peace education Internet tool for teachers in Chechnya, and the development of a crisis-mapping platform used in Egypt to map harassment against women. Organizations and individuals can apply. Applications must be for new projects, as the grant does not support projects already in progress. Letters of Inquiry (LOI) are accepted and expected. An LOI Form is available online. In addition, applicants must provide a CV (no more than 3 pages long) for each project team member. Applicants that move on to Phase 2 are contacted by the Foundation by the end of November. At that time, a full application will be required. Proposals that include matching funds will be given preference. The Grant Application Form must also be completed and is available online. All correspondence must be in English. A call for proposals for this program will be posted early in 2014.
Strategic Partnering Initiative (SPI) funds projects that facilitate mutual development and growth. Grantees work directly with the Berghof Foundation. There is no deadline date for this program. Potential partners will be contacted.
Georg Zundel Scholarship (GZS) is a 2-year scholarship of € 15,000 per year to PhD students specializing in conflict transformation. This program does not take place every year. Expect the next call for applications early in 2014.
