In patriarchal societies around the globe, women and girls are considered as the second sex. Most of the decisions about them (education, employment, marriage, reproduction) are done by male members of family. If a girl child does not learn to cook food, seniors in society tease her; if a boy child learns to cook, the same people laugh at him. If mom needs to get out of home in the evening, she would prefer to take a boy child 8 years than a girl child 16 years of age. Father will never take out his daughter in the evening because she needs protection but a son because he needs to learn how to tackle with problems. There are hundreds of families where sexual violence exists but girls keep quiet because they fear of more violence, mothers keep quiet because family has a dignity which gets affected if they speak out that their daughters are raped by their own father/brother or any other male member. Gender-based trauma exists in various forms in our society yet when we speak of gender sensitivity, women’s rights and reservation for women to reach equity people look at us with wide open eyes. They think the women activists try to sensitize the issue and gain attention.
