The Virginia Gildersleeve International Fund (VGIF) was founded in 1969 and has funded over 515 projects in 93 countries, focusing on issues ranging from education and health to economic empowerment and human rights.

VGIF provides small grants up to $7,500 USD to grassroots projects that are led by women and that help empower women and girls, in developing countries around the world.

VGIF supports organizations that are governed and directed by women; organizations in developing countries, including the emerging democracies in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, that address issues such as:

  • Economic empowerment
  • Community development
  • Health and nutritional support
  • Literacy and leadership training
  • Educational seminars and workshops
  • Promoting education in the sciences for girls
  • Women’s human rights

The Virginia Gildersleeve International Fund (VGIF) provides small grants to grassroots projects that empower women and girls. VGIF often provides early support, funding innovative projects that help grow new organizations, test new community change strategies and foster women leaders.

Four special funds created to provide grant funding for specific types of projects:

  1. Erna Hamburger Fund (EHF)
  2. Asian Regional Endowment (ARE)
  3. Central/South America/Caribbean Regional Endowment Fund (CSACRE)
  4. Leaders Fund (LF)

I am running a small school for children of underprivileged communities. As of now I am supporting the education of 60 children. We provide free books and stationery for the whole year to the children. The community we are catering to is very rural and poor. Had it not been for this initiative, the children would not have had the opportunity to learn. Under this project we provide teachers salaries and rent for the building where the school is running. As part of our womens empowerment stance we have just hired female teachers from within the community. We are registered under the Trust Act in Pakistan. Your help in this respect will be highly appreciated.

i support a kids club for HIV positive children in my rural village in Kakamega county.Kenya.I am in the process of establishing a rescue center for those among them that are convalensing,in vulnerable and hostile environments and those that need urgent nutritional support. This will be the first such center in the sub-county and i would like to provide a safe haven for more kids. For a begining i will only accomodate a maximum of 8 -girls only for lack of resources since i have no funds to support this project other than the salary i earn working as a nurse.
Can we apply for grant! We are a registered CBO with a current registration of 106 kids.
