Section M: Applicants need to explain, in 300 words or less, what changes in relationships, actions, behaviors, policies, and practices those mentioned in Section L are expected and why these changes are important to achieve.
Example 1: We anticipate several changes in behaviors, policies, actions, relationships, and practices as a result of the work of our project. First, we expect the development of a partnership between project leaders, educators, and parents in the creation of school policies and procedures regarding violence against girls and boys. In addition, we anticipate an increase in learning about the issue and how implementation of policies and procedures make a positive impact on society by those involved in the project as well as the broader community. These changes are important to achieve a cultural shift in the way women are treated in the workplace.
Upon infusing new curricular elements into the school system, we expect a moderate drop in violence against girls in the targeted area within the first year after the program has been implemented. We anticipate further drops in violent incidents as the program is extended to other schools and as the community learns more about the benefits of having specific legislation to stop violence against girls as well as children and women. We also anticipate that the up-and-coming generation of girls and boys will not need to deal with this issue as a cultural outlook toward violence against others will have occurred, making this a non-issue into the future.
Example 2: Having worked to build coalitions of individuals with a strong interest in eradicating sexual harassment and violence in the workplace, we anticipate that companies that outsource garment work to India-based factories will be the first to make it a required part of business practices to implement and monitor workplace issues such as these. Other garment factories in the country will be legally required to implement workplace violence and sexual harassment policies and procedures shortly thereafter. We also expect local and national governance in India to clarify workplace violence/sexual harassment laws as well as ensure that women can make a claim of these actions without retribution. In addition, we expect that those found culpable of these horrible actions will serve appropriate penalties, both criminal and civil when appropriate. Cultural change takes time, but we anticipate through our collective efforts that workplace violence and sexual harassment will cease to be an issue within a decade.
