Gantt chart is a type of bar charts developed by Henry Gantt (hence the name Gantt chart). It is simple and clear to use Gantt chart to show some of the contents in the proposal, such as the Activities and Budget sections. It can be used to show the timeline, the personnel plan, the work plan, the equipment plan and the budget in the proposal which helps to shorten and simplify the description. Items such as exact times, activities, names and explanations can be included in the chart. Here is a Gantt chart sample:
Activities | Duration | Remarks | |
1 | Hiring/training of staff | 3 months | Month 1-3th |
2 | Initial study and assessment | 3 months | Month 4-6th |
3 | Monitoring & evaluation | 1 week | The first week of each quarter |
4 | Strategies & activities finalizations | 1 month | Month 6th |
5 | … … |
A Logical Framework Analysis (LFA) is a form you need to fill while submitting a proposal, which is considered as an important part and may look complicated. The LFA is a management tool for effective planning and implementation of the project, which provides clear, precise, and systemic information through a framework, and will be submitted to and used by the donors. To simplify the LFA, we may take it as a task that we need to use a few sentences to describe and summarize each of the sections of goal, objectives, activities, results and indicators, etc., and fill them on the LFA form. And thus a completed section or proposal is the prerequisite before feeding them to the LFA framework. You may also fill up a draft LFA form while finishing each section of the proposal. A draft sheet or board used for discussion and preparation of the filling content prior to the filling up of the real LFA form is recommended.
Once filled up, the LFA helps to the connections of all of those components in the proposal to show the relationships between them and lead to the overall understanding of the proposed project. The LFA will play its important role in the funding decision making by the donors, since the donors will use the LFA framework to seek in-depth information of how much funding and resources are needed, and how the proposed project will be organized and performed.
