Women rights in Islamic communities: a resource guide for educators of human rights is a joint research publication of the Directorate General of Human Rights (DG-HAM), Ministry of Justice and Human Rights Indonesia (MOLAHR) and Equitas – International Centre for Human Rights Education.
DG-HAM and Equitas have collaborated on a multi-year project, entitled Enhancing the protection of human rights in Indonesia. The project helps the Government of Indonesia National Plan of Action for Human Rights (RANHAM 2004-2009). RANHAM is mainly conducted by the National Committee RANHAM and more than 400 provincial and local committees RANHAM. Apart from the staff of DG-HAM, committees contain a wide variety of stakeholders in other parts of society, particularly those from other departments, universities and social organizations.
The project of DG-HAM / Equitas is designed to increase the capacity of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights staff and partners to strengthen effective education for human rights (EDH) to perform. In particular, the activities of the project to strengthen one of the pillars RANHAM (no approximation), ie that project activities aimed at the formation of human rights education for three different but interconnected “diffusion and education on human rights “1.) the members of the National RANHAM, 2) the members of the NAD (NAD) RANHAM Provincial Committee, and 3) the members of the national team coaches in the EDH (with members of both groups).
To meet the challenges for educators in conducting human rights education (HRE) activities in communities Perda nuances of Sharia (short for Peraturan Darah, local laws influenced by sharia), a unit to tackle the project was added. This component is aimed at the Directorate General of ham and RANHAM additional committees to provide the tools and skills that their ability to provide effective human rights education and ensure sustainable results strengthen. The emphasis on local law provides an additional element RANHAM the project, the harmonization of national and local laws and regulations in conformity with international human rights standards.
Researchers hope to contribute to these publishing tools and reference materials available to teachers for human rights in general, but especially those working in Muslim communities. The topics covered in this publication focuses on the rights of women.
