Blindness has been identified as a major problem in developing countries by AUSAID and it has issued a separate funding scheme called the AUSAID Avoidable Blindness Fund that aims to reduce the incidence of preventable blindness and improve the quality of life of the people who are suffering from low vision and blindness. The scheme intends to develop partnerships with NGOs working in eye health care, strengthen the eye care training institutions, piloting vision centre and assessing eye health and vision care to build better prospects for reducing avoidable blindness. AUDAID invites proposals from NGOs once in a year to submit projects for potential funding in the field of blindness and eye care. Link.
