CIPHER Grant Program of $75,000 to Researchers in Low-and Middle-income Countries

The Collaborative Initiative for Pediatric HIV Education and Research (CIPHER) Grant Program 2015 of US$1 million is in the threshold. The International AIDS Society grant program will begin accepting letters of intent (LOIs) for research projects that address priority research gaps in pediatric HIV from 1-31 October 2014. Researchers from low-and middle-income countries are highly encouraged to submit applications.

The grant offers early-stage investigators up to $75,000 each for up to two years of research. A minimum of four research grants will be awarded at the 8th IAS Conference on HIV Pathogenesis, Treatment and Prevention (IAS 2015) in Vancouver, Canada.

  2. Operational research and implementation science

Eligibility Criteria

  • The principal investigator (PI) must be an early-stage investigator, i.e., an individual who obtained her/his final research degree (e.g., PhD or MD followed by research training) less than 10 years before the application deadline.
  • The PI must serve for the first time as primary PI for a non-training research grant.
  • The PI must fulfill one of the following criteria prior to the submission deadline for the LOI:
    1. S/he is a clinical/research trainee (e.g., fellow, senior resident) at an academic institute or an institute whose primary mission is research.
    2. S/he has a faculty or comparable position (e.g., assistant professor, lecturer) at an academic institute or an institute whose primary mission is research.
    3. S/he has an established position at an organization with adequate research infrastructure to undertake the proposed research activities.
  • The research project should demonstrate the potential to contribute to the optimization of HIV diagnosis, prevention, treatment and care for infants, children and adolescents affected by HIV in resource-limited settings by responding to identified research gaps.
  • The Principal investigator will be required to choose a mentor with relevant expertise in pediatric HIV research.
