Are you an organization with five years of experience in managing and delivering international development initiatives related to maternal, newborn and child health? OR you have only two plus years of experience in the same? If your answer is ‘yes’ to any of these two questions, you are eligible to become partner of a Canadian organization who can apply for the Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada (DFATD) Fund. The DFATD’s priority theme of theme of Securing the Future of Children and Youth, specifically Maternal, Newborn and Child Health results to the call for proposal for Canadian organizations to partner for Strengthening Maternal, Newborn and Child Health. The Canadian organizations can form consortium with national or international partners (organizations) to apply for the funding opportunity.
Proposed initiatives should be in line with one or more of the following paths
- Strengthening health systems
- Reducing the burden of diseases
- Improving nutrition
- Ensuring accountability for results
Funding Streams
- Less than $19,000 for organizations with two or more years of experience managing and delivering international development initiatives.
- More than $20,000 for organizations with five or more years of experience managing and delivering international development initiatives.
Eligibility Criteria
- For Stream 1, applicants must be organizations that have been legally incorporated under the provincial, territorial or federal laws of Canada for at least two years and must demonstrate at least two years of experience in managing and delivering international development initiatives.
- For Stream 2, applicants must be organizations that have been legally incorporated under the provincial, territorial or federal laws of Canada for at least three years and must demonstrate at least five years of experience in managing and delivering international development initiatives related to maternal, newborn and child health in developing countries.
- Eligible Canadian organizations may choose to form consortiums with other Canadian and/or international organizations from civil society, academia and/or the private sector. Non-lead members of a consortium do not need to meet all of the eligibility criteria for this call.
- If application is by forming a consortium, details regarding the expertise that each consortium member brings to the initiative should be included in the proposal.
- An organization can submit only one proposal, either on its own or as the lead organization in a consortium. It must choose to submit its proposal to either Stream 1 or Stream 2 of the Partnerships for Strengthening Maternal, Newborn and Child Health call for proposals, using the appropriate application form.
- Organizations must contribute at least 15 percent of total direct program costs, in cash and/or in-kind, of which at least 5 percent must be in cash, calculated on the total direct costs.
- Applicants have the option to allocate up to 10 percent of total direct program costs for public engagement activities.
Note: If you are an eligible organization with interest to work on the project, find an eligible Canadian organization and approach them to become partner for the project. Do it early so the organization you are willing to become partner with get enough time to apply for the fund.
