The Energy and Environment Partnership (EEP) Program with Southern and East Africa (S&EA) is seeking high-quality applications for projects in the two regions. Proposals can be made for country specific projects or regional projects that can contribute to the reduction of poverty by promoting inclusive and job-creating green economy and by improving energy security while mitigating global climate change.
Successful proposals will be allocated grants between € 200,000 and € 1,000,000 depending on the level of verifiable co-financing brought in by the project to implement it within 24 months. The program is funded by the Governments of Finland, Austria and United Kingdom.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants can be non-government organizations (NGOs), community based organizations (CBOs), not-for-profit organizations (NPOs), public institutions, research organizations, educational institutions, charitable organizations, cooperative organizations or private companies.
- Proposed projects should be implemented in one or more of the following partner countries- Botswana, Burundi, Kenya, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.
- Applications should provide information on the maturity of the business or project and why EEP S&EA funding would be required.
- Only applications with a verifiable minimum share of co-financing are eligible.
- An organization can submit only one application for a given country. Joint applications are accepted but there must be a lead applicant.
- Applicants who participated in past EEP-S&EA call for proposals are eligible to apply for this call.
- Individuals and mainstream government entities e.g. Government Ministries and National/Provincial/District Departments are not eligible.
Application Stages
- Concept notes (current stage)
- Full project proposals – Applicants of selected concept notes will be invited to submit full proposal in the later stage.
Concept note applications will be screened in terms following key criteria
- Project or business idea
- Capability of the applicant
- Development impacts and climate change mitigations
- Scale-up/replication potential and/or potential to mobilize future investment
- Financial leverage (co-financing share)
Application Procedure
- Register online at EEPAfrica, log in and fill the application form. The form automatically saves, applicants can log in and complete the application any time.
- Complete all the required fields with exception of ‘optional’ fields in English.
- Submit all the requested documents.
- Mention financial information in Euro (EUR).
- Submit the application by the deadline.
