The Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation invites research grant applications from individual researchers or a few principal investigators on natural and social sciences and the humanities that promise to increase understanding of the causes, manifestations, and control of violence and aggression. Violence and aggression in relation to social change, inter-group conflict, war, terrorism and crime, and family relationships are prioritized.
Research projects of up to one or two years are granted fund of $15,000 to $40,000. Priority is given to research areas and methodologies that do not receive adequate attention and support from other funding sources.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicant can be the citizen of any country.
- Applicants cannot be an institution. Individuals or a few principal investigators are supported through this fund.
- There is no formal degree requirement for the grant though most of the grant recipients till date possess a PhD or MD.
- Applicants need not be affiliated with an institution of higher learning, although most are college or university professors.
- The grant cannot be used to support research undertaken as part of the requirements for a graduate degree.
- Research with no relevance to understanding human problems and proposals to investigate urgent social problems where the foundation cannot be assured that useful, sound research can be done will not be supported.
