Deadline: 30 October 2014
The Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) invites grant proposals from investigators and/or co-investigators from malaria endemic areas (countries) to apply for the Malaria Box Challenge Grants. The call encourages animal model testing of the Malaria Box hit compounds and their derivatives in neglected infectious disease models, such as schistosomiasis, cryptosporidiosis, filariasis, tuberculosis, as well as other infections where there is comorbidity in children with malaria. Applications that propose to study malaria in animal models with the Malaria Box compounds or new compound series with novel antimalarial compounds will also be considered.
Applications can be made by investigators in non-malaria endemic countries too but their proposals will be secondary to malaria endemic areas investigators’ proposals.
Up to five proposals will be awarded each with a single grant of USD 100,000. The awards will initiate in December 2014 or January 2015.
Eligibility Criteria
- Proposals should be made for investigations at the stage where initial leads are identified against neglected disease pathogens.
- The proposed project should facilitate further development of the compounds and develop proof-of-concept information.
- One group/team of investigators can submit only one proposal.
- Applicants must propose in vivo (animal) studies following on information from the Malaria Box on neglected infectious diseases that afflict children co-infected with malaria in malaria-endemic countries.
- Applicant teams are required to present all relevant data as completely and concisely as possible because the grant challenge is highly competitive.
- Applications must be submitted via email before deadline.
Note: MMV has data on PK exposure after oral dosing of mice with majority of Malaria Box compounds. Teams who need the information for their application can contact via email for release of that information for up to ten Malaria Box compounds.
