The Terra Foundation for American Art is accepting travel grant applications from doctoral and postdoctoral candidates outside the United States. Grant request can be made for maximum 3-month travel to consult resources that are only available within the United States. This is an opportunity for the concerned candidates to discover new source material, experience works of art first-hand in museums and private collections, consult local archives and library collections, and establish professional network for future research.
Annually, nine to thirteen grants are awarded to candidates from Asia, Africa, Latin America, Europe, North America, Australia and NewZealand.
Grant Allocations
- Up to $7,000 each for doctoral candidates from Asia, Africa and Latin America
- Up to $6,000 each for doctoral candidates from Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand
- Up to $9,000 each for postdoctoral and senior scholars
Eligibility criteria
- Applicants can be doctoral students and postdoctoral and senior scholars outside the United States.
- Application should commit to make the visit within one calendar year after the announcement of the selection results.
- Applicants must commit to submit final report within three months of completion of travel. The report will include a description of the travel undertaken as a result of the grant, an assessment of the research accomplished, and a financial report detailing grant expenditures.
- Applicants must commit to acknowledge the support of TFAA in any publication that results from research conducted during the grant if they receive the travel grant.
- Completed application forms and all required attachments must be written in English and submitted via email.
Complete application materials include – curriculum vitae, description of the research project, detailed description of the proposed itinerary, travel budget, two letters of recommendation.
