The Sainsbury Family Charitable Trusts is the operating office of 18 grant-making trusts established by three generations of the Sainsbury family. The trusts’ donations to charitable causes over several decades represent one of the leading examples of sustained philanthropy in Britain.
Each trust works autonomously as an independent legal entity with a separate board of trustees, actively led by an individual member of the family with keenly-followed interests.
Eligibility Criteria
- The trusts only fund registered charities or activities with clearly defined charitable purposes.
- Applications will not be considered by more than one trust.
Application Process
Suitable applications to these trusts should be sent by post with a description (strictly no more than two pages please, as any more is unlikely to be read) of the proposed project, covering:
- The organisation – explaining its charitable aims and objectives, and giving its most recent annual income and expenditure, and current financial position. Please do not send a full set of accounts.
- The project requiring funding – why it is needed, who will benefit and in what way
- The funding – breakdown of costs, any money rose so far, and how the balance will be raised.
