The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is inviting non-profit organizations in the Dominican Republic to apply for grant proposals to address the program entitled Lighting Excitement for Excellency in Reading Activity.
Lighting Excitement for Excellency in Reading (LEER) is USAID’s five year activity aimed at increasing the reading skills of students in targeted areas by supporting sustainable best practices in education. Activities will be geographically focused in the urban corridor (Duarte Highway Corridor), which runs from Santo Domingo north to Puerto Plata. It includes six of the nation’s 32 provinces, 70 percent of the Dominican population, and 63 percent of youth.
The program targets to increase the reading skills of 200,000 students in targeted areas by supporting sustainable best practices in education in the Dominican Republic.
Major purposes
- To improve the quality of basic reading instruction
- To create a supportive learning environment for students
USAID will sign one cooperative agreement to conduct activities for five years period. Approximate funding amount is $20,000,000.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants can be any Dominican-based non-governmental organizations, non-for-profit, or for-profit entities (Including NGOs, business associations, universities, and academic institutions).
- Joint applications between Dominican and US based organizations are also considered for funding.
- USAID encourages potential new partners to respond to this call.
- Minimum cost share should be 15% of the total requested amount.
- Two separate applications – technical & financial should be submitted.
