The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Washington Fellows have a good news. The United States African Development Foundation (USADF) is providing capital along with mentoring to selected youth business leaders and entrepreneurs of the next generation.
The selected Yali Washington Fellows will get necessary seed capital and technical support. The USADF will award grants to maximum 36 business or social enterprises in Africa. Grant up to US$25,000 will be provided to each fellow grantees.
Fund can be used to start-up or expand ventures, which may include:
- Executing market plans
- Conducting technical studies
- Testing new products and services
- Expanding facilities
- Furthering related business expansion or start-up activities
Eligibility Criteria
- The 175 Washington Fellows competitively selected for the YALI Class of 2014’s Business and Entrepreneurship track are eligible to apply .
- Businesses and social ventures must be 100 percent African-owned and managed, and based in and operating in one or more Sub-Saharan African countries where the applicant also lives and works.
- Applicants must be the founder and/or one of the lead principles in the enterprise that she or he is proposing for grant funding.
- The competition is open to only the individuals launching or expanding a businessor social venture that is operating in good standing with their local and national governments and adhering to other international standards.
