Grant application to the Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa can be made via email, regular mail or fax. Applications should be made at least two months prior to the start date of the project/program activities.
There will be open call for proposal with deadlines for grant awards above $50,000. In this case, the grant applications will be made via online application system. The applicant gets an email mentioning the receipt of the application. No email response means the submission failed. If the applicant wants to add or make some changes in the submitted application, the organization needs to be contacted for it. The applicant can partially complete the application and save to access later anytime before the deadline. Award notification will be made via e-mail within 180 days after the close of an application cycle.
The application materials include- a cover letter, an executive summary and a grant proposal.
The cover letter must be on an official letterhead signed by the Executive Director of the organization. It must provide brief description of the project, amount requested, proposed start and end date.
The executive summary should not be more than 2 pages briefing the statement of problem to be addressed and purpose of the grant request. It should also mention the total budget required to carry out the project activities. Also include an organizational overview that expose the open society values and ideals along with how impacts were achieved in the past.
The grant proposal (clear and concise) must mention the project name, executive summary, detailed description of the project, problem statement, goals and objectives, activities, implementing organization, gender analysis, youth participation, need and rational for the project, sustainability, rational for support, concerns and conditions, local and other partners, detailed budget, and other funding partners approached.
Eligibility Criteria
- Programs & initiatives must focus on one or more of the following countries- Angola, Botswana, DRC, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
- An organization can make application only once per year. Exceptions are rarely made on grant awards.
- Reapplication with the same proposal is not considered for evaluation.
