The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation have launched New Interventions for Global Health Grand challenge which will support organizations from around the world for innovative ideas for maintaining the global health. This challenge focuses on innovative concepts for vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics with the potential to be translated into safe, effective, affordable, and widely utilized interventions to protect against the acquisition, progression, or transmission of infectious diseases, or to provide a cure for infectious diseases, in resource‐limited settings.
Award Prizes
Full awards up to $10M and up to four years: Under this new Grand Challenge we accept applications for full awards, each of which could include a grant, program related investment and/or contract up to USD $10,000,000 and up to four years to accelerate the translation of novel concepts.
Pilot awards up to $2M and up to four years: Under this new Grand Challenge we will also consider applications for pilot awards of up to USD $2,000,000 and up to four years to explore novel concepts that require additional investigation.
Eligibility Criteria
- Grand Challenges is open to both organizations, including non-profit organizations, for profit companies, international organizations, government agencies and academic institutions from around the world.
- Upon registration, applicants must provide information about the tax status of their organization as different terms and conditions may apply.
- The foundation may request additional information regarding the organization’s tax status.
Application Process
- The applicants are advised to the Frequently Asked Questions page for guidelines before making the Letter of Inquiry (LOI).
- The applicants should download the LOI format given on Grand Challenges website for New Interventions for Global Health.
- The LOI application must include the following sections and must not exceed the total page limit of 5 pages. The LOI should include the following elements:
- Executive Summary (1/2 Page)
- Goals (1 Page)
- Approach (1 Page)
- Organization and Investigator Capabilities (1/2 Page)
- Collaboration (1/2 page)
- Budget (1/2 Page)
All the LOI should be sent via email given on the Grand Challenge website before the closing date.
