Deadline: Different for different topics
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is currently accepting ideas/proposals for its Grand Challenges Round 2015 in different topics. Anyone from any country and in any discipline, from student to tenured professor, and from any organization – colleges and universities, government laboratories, research institutions, non-profit organizations and for-profit companies can submit their ideas for the challenge.
The Grand Challenges Explorations is an extension of the Grand Challenges in Global Health initiative with a focus on encouraging innovation in global health and development research. The Grand Challenges Explorations program mainly targets projects that are at an earlier stage of discovery. The Explorations topics address many of the same challenges defined in the 16 Grand Challenges, in addition to new areas.
Grand Challenges Explorations Round 2015 Topics
- Addressing Newborn and Infant Gut Health Through Bacteriophage-Mediated Microbiome Engineering
- Explore New Ways to Measure Delivery and Use of Digital Financial Services Data
- Surveillance Tools, Diagnostics and an Artificial Diet to Support New Approaches to Vector Control
- New Approaches for Addressing Outdoor/Residual Malaria Transmission
- New Ways to Reduce Childhood Pneumonia Deaths Through Delivery of Timely Effective Treatment
- Enable Merchant Acceptance of Mobile Money Payments
Grand Challenges Explorations Grants
Phase I grants will be for $100,000 USD for a grant period of 18 months. Phase I projects that show promise will be eligible to apply for follow-on grant of up to $1 million in Phase II.
Eligibility Criteria
- The grant program is open to anyone from any discipline, from student to tenured professor, and from any organization – colleges and universities, government laboratories, research institutions, non-profit organizations and for-profit companies.
- There is no geographical restriction for applicants. Applications are invited from both private and public organizations.
- Scientists worldwide affiliated with any organization are encouraged to submit their ideas.
How to Apply?
All applicants must complete the Application Form and submit their idea through our online portal in order to have their idea considered.
