About: FCAM was created in 2003 to support grassroots women’s organisations in Central America. Main goals of the organisation are: to guarantee women’s rights to physical and emotional integrity, to promote economic justice and to support and increase women’s participation in political and decision-making processes. In particular, FCAM supports initiatives for young women.
Area of Intervention: Proposed projects must clarify how the planned activities will fulfil at least 1 of the 3 main goals of the organisation (see above). In particular, all proposals should emphasise how the proposed activities will promote women’s human rights in their community of belonging and in relation to the addressed issues.
FCAM administers its funds through 5 different programs:
- Ola Joven provides support to organisations led by young women (aged between 16 and 30).
- Sexuality and Rights supports organisations advocating for lesbians, bisexual, transgender and sexual workers rights.
- Working women’s rights supports projects promoting and defending women’s economic and labour rights.
- Women and Transnational Families supports organisations working with immigrant women.
- My Body is Mine supports projects defending women’s reproductive rights.
In addition to these programs, FCAM has a special Fund for Rapid Response, which provides financial aid to: women facing problems caused by rapid changes in public policy, which needs to be addressed urgently, to safeguards the rights of women affected by natural disasters or living in war or conflict situation. Applications for this special fund could be sent at any time by writing directly to FCAM (info@femujeres.org).
Eligibility: FCAM supports all women groups working in the region of Central America whose projects fall into one of the thematic fields of interest of the organisation. Yet, certain organisations will be given priority. In particular, organisations working far from urban centres, in rural areas or in the Caribbean, organisations formed by a majority of young women (under 30 years of age), organisations working with controversial issues, organisations without other donors and organisations made of groups of marginalised women (Indigenous, Afro-Caribbean, with disabilities, LBT, sex workers, HIV positive among others). Also, certain calls for applications are restricted to selected countries.
FCAM accepts applications also from groups that are not officially registered and from individuals. FCAM does not accept proposals for project focusing on production activities, income generation or service provision.
How to apply: Unsolicited proposals are not accepted. Once a call is open, you should send your proposal and detailed budget directly to FCAM. Your project must emphasise how your planned activities will contribute to better the social, political, or economic situation of women and women’s human rights in your community. Further guidelines could be provided under the specific call you are answering.
Deadlines: Call for proposals are advertised once a year through FCAM’s website
There are currently no open calls.
