The U.S Department of State is calling applicants for its Governance and Civil Society Programme in Syria.
Objectives
- Governance-Moderate opposition governance structures’ capacity and legitimacy are improved through
- More effectively provide basic local governance services.
- Enhanced organizational development and standardization of processes in support of more effective, transparent and credible civil administration.
- Strengthened cooperation and coordination between local councils, provincial councils, civil society, free police and moderate armed actors, including increased engagement with national-level opposition entities.
- Civil Society– Enhanced capacity of civil society organizations to serve, represent and advocate for all Syrians and hold governance structures accountable through:
- Improved communication mechanisms to engage constituents and key stakeholders
- Increased citizen understanding of rights and civic responsibilities
- Increased civic involvement of Syrian civilians in liberated and contested areas
- Development of organizational structures and internal processes to be more effective public advocates
- Increased ability to effectively engage governance structures on key issues
Grant Information
The estimated total award is $42 million that includes:
- Governance Grant: $30 million
- Civil Society Grant: $12 million
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible applicants include U.S. or foreign non-profit organizations; for-profit organizations; private institutions of higher education, public or state institutions of higher education; public international organizations; and small businesses with functional and regional experience.
- International non-governmental organizations with principal bases of operations outside the Middle East and North Africa are also encouraged to apply.
