The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announces the availability of Fiscal Year (FY) 2012 funds for a cooperative agreement program to enhance HIV mobilization among organizations serving gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men. The goals of this announcement are:
- Fund national non-HIV focused organizations that historically serve gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM) to enhance their focus on the sexual health of MSM by increasing HIV awareness, prevention, and action among gay, bisexual, and other MSM, as well as improve the health of MSM living with HIV.
- To increase the number of other non-HIV focused organizations that historically serve gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM) to adopt the sexual health of MSM and HIV prevention as a focus for their organizations.
Based on anticipated funds available, CDC plans to award up to 2 cooperative agreements. The maximum award will be $220,000.
The purpose of the cooperative agreement is to provide an opportunity for organizations to build upon their existing infrastructure, influence, and activities to prioritize and enhance HIV prevention among gay, bisexual, and other MSM they serve. This program addresses five of the “Healthy People 2020 ” HIV focus area(s) of:
- HIV-2: (Developmental) Reduce new (incident) HIV infections among adolescents and adults (Developmental) Reduce new (incident) HIV infections among adolescents and adults
- HIV-6: Reduce the number of new AIDS cases among adolescent and adult men who have sex with men Reduce the number of new AIDS cases among adolescent and adult men who have sex with men
- HIV-13: Increase the proportion of persons living with HIV who know their serostatus Increase the proportion of persons living with HIV who know their serostatus
- HIV-14: Increase the proportion of adolescents and adults who have been tested for HIV in the past 12 months
- HIV-17: Increase the proportion of sexually active persons who use condoms
