Call for applications invited by The Swedish Institute for the Creative Force Middle East and North Africa Program.
The Creative Force Middle East and North Africa Program is part of Sweden’s strategy for development cooperation with the Middle East and North Africa 2010-2015. The main aim of the program is to improve respect for human rights especially freedom of expression and women’s rights.
The program covers mutual, capacity-building initiatives in the fields of culture, society, the media and related creative sectors which comply with the goals of the program. SI gives special priority to activities which create greater space for exchanges of opinion and have the potential to be disseminated more widely thereby helping to shape opinion about the issues raised by the project.
Funding may not be sought for research projects, study trips, school exchanges, commercial contact and voluntary work, exchanges for children or young people, or participation in conferences/courses.
The projects carried out within the program shall aim to achieve one or more of the following results:
- Strengthen women’s rights, their influence in society and their opportunities for participating in the political process
- Strengthen independent media and journalism; create new arenas and forms of communication in order to facilitate a better dissemination of information
- Develop new tools for lobbying and opinion-making in order to achieve greater accountability and respect for human rights
- Create mutual learning processes and sustainable networks among actors who use culture and other creative tools to promote a greater awareness of basic values and human rights
Applications will be accepted during the period 1 – 31 March (24.00 CET) 2012.
