Applications are invited for Gender and Human Rights Training of Trainers which will be conducted in late September to early October for duration of 10 days in Male’. The training aims at fostering a group of gender experts as trainers and building their capacity on gender equality, women’s empowerment and human rights issues in the Maldives. The training is organized jointly by the Ministry of Gender, Family and Human Rights, UN Women, UNFPA and UNICEF.
The training will encompass topics, such as gender awareness, international human rights framework, gender analysis, prevention and response to gender based violence, sexual and reproductive rights, girl child issues, leadership, facilitation and public speaking skills.
Main objectives of the training are-
- To increase understanding of gender equality, women’s empowerment and human rights of participants;
- To provide leadership and training skills to participants and increase their confidence;
- To create a network of gender experts and women’s rights advocates who will push the gender equality agenda forward in the Maldives;
- To build a perspective on gender equality issues in the Maldives and globally.
- Once completed the ToT, participants will be evaluated and registered in a roster of trainers. They will be mobilized for various trainings for different target groups, such as local councilors, communities, women development committees, civil society organizations and government staff, which may be supported by UN agencies or the Government. The initial ToT will be conducted in English. A follow-up training is planned in early 2013.
Eligibility & Criteria–
- Minimum 3 years of work experience in civil society and community organizations, women development committees, government or private sectors or any other relevant fields;
- Minimum educational requirement is A level, diploma or degree preferred;
- Age of at least 21 years old;
- Previous experience and/ or training on gender equality, women’s empowerment and human rights issues, including volunteer experience;
- Strong interest and commitment to gender equality, women’s empowerment and human rights and is able to become an advocate and trainer;
- Available to attend the full 10 days of training of trainers in late September to early October followed by a practice session for 3 days in Male’;
- Currently resides in the Maldives and will be available to work as a trainer for at least one year;
- Willingness to travel domestically to atolls to facilitate trainings;
- Good command of English;
